General Installation Please print this page for your use in installing Milestone's products.
   

A. General

1. A qualified engineering professional should be used to determine all structural requirements.
2. All instructions should be read prior to commencement of any work.
3. Installation should only be attempted by qualified personnel with the necessary tools and experience to undertake this type of work.
4. This work may require the prior approval of local building officials and be affected by local building codes.
5. Milestone recommends that qualified masons be used for stone installations. The Cast Stone Institutes (www.caststone.org) recommendations and guidelines should be used for all installations.
6. Ensure the structure to which this is attached is sound and designed to handle the loads for which it was intended.
7. Disconnect and make safe any utility that can be potentially impacted by this installations.
8. This process will create dust, debris, and wet concrete products. Care must be exercised when establishing your work space to ensure that no damage occurs as a result of this process.
9. This product is heavy. Caution must be exercised when lifting or moving this product or personal injury may result.



B. Products

Epoxy - Laticrete 310 or equivalent

Mortar - Mapei Ultraflex 2

Grout - Mapei Keracolor S (biscuit)

Sealers - Aqua Mix Penetrating Sealer

Caulking - Mapei Keracaulk S (biscuit)

Fasteners - Tapcon or equivalent masonry fastener

Cutting- Use masonry blades only

Construction Adhesive – PL Premium or equivalent

Stains – Behr exterior concrete stains work well with this product, but Milestone has not tested the longevity of the product when it is stained

 

C. Cutting

1. Mark all cuts with carpenter’s pencil. Lightly mark with pencil as the marks are not removable. Do not mark face that is visible in final construction.

2. All cutting should be performed in a well ventilated area using all required personal protective devices and measures including safety glasses and ventilators or filter masks as required.

3. Use only masonry type blades for cutting of material

4. Measure carefully as this material can be difficult and require large amounts of time to replace.

5. As with all masonry, cutting should be slow and steady to ensure that no chipping occurs.

 

D. Grouting

1. Due to the flexible nature of construction adhesive, sanded caulk or laticrete spectraloc epoxy grout should used in lieu of normal grout when adhering the stone pieces with construction adhesive.

2. All grouts, mortars sealants, etc. should be installed in accordance with the manufactures instruction unless noted otherwise.

3. When Grouting or caulking many find it easier to tape off adjacent surfaces to minimize clean-up.

4. Thoroughly clean product both during initial cleaning and haze cleaning to ensure the grout does not stain the product.

5. Preweb grout joint before grouting.
